Building houses has been a part of my family's life since I was seven years old. That might sound unusual, but it's true.

My journey in home building began alongside my father and grandfather, both union miners in the beautiful
state of West Virginia.

Union miners then faced contract renewals every three years,and strikes were common. During one such strike when I was only seven, my parents started building our home. We lived temporarily in a trailer on the
property while our future home took shape.

My father worked nights in the mine's control room, and each morning when he returned, we plunged straight to work.

This routine continued until we completed the house when I was eight. From there, our passion for building grew. By the time I graduated high school, the mines had closed, leaving many workers, including my father, jobless.

My father transitioned into real estate and became the area's first modular home builder. We continued to build homes together, and I eventually started my own interior design business, often taking on the construction aspects of my designs.

The housing market crash significantly impacted our state, and my previously bustling business slowed to a crawl. I had to get creative and adapt to new methods to sustain my work.

Despite the setbacks, my family
now has the honor of building over 300 homes in West Virginia, including my son's house, which was #300, which we finished this spring.
